 A  recent survey by Intuit QuickBooks has shed light on the innovative spirit and resilience of Black-owned small businesses. This study reveals how these entrepreneurs are pushing boundaries and fostering change across various sectors.


Key Findings:

  • Widespread Innovation: An impressive 84% of Black-owned small businesses have implemented innovative changes in their operations over the past year. These innovations range from improved money-saving strategies to new management procedures and the introduction of new products and services.

  • Protecting Intellectual Property: Recognizing the value of their innovations, 82% of Black-owned small businesses currently hold a patent, trademark, or copyright. Even more encouraging, 84% plan to apply for one in the coming year.

  • Embracing Technology: Black entrepreneurs are at the forefront of technological adoption, with 84% utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) in their business operations. AI applications include idea generation (39%), customer service assistance (36%), and data analysis (35%).


Overcoming Challenges:

Despite these impressive strides, Black-owned businesses continue to face significant hurdles:

  • Prejudices and stereotypes

  • Racial inequities

  • Economic uncertainties

These challenges threaten to impede the innovative advancements of Black entrepreneurs. However, the survey results demonstrate a remarkable resilience and determination to succeed despite these obstacles.
